More top wedding venues in Tarifa!

Sometimes I have to pinch myself, to think that I have lived in Tarifa since 2003!! It’s been such a privilege to call this my home for all these years, and to develop my photography career here. I have photographed many weddings in this beautiful town, and aside from getting married here myself, I have seen many of my friends celebrate their union here too, all in their own unique ways, and using venues that reflect so well not only the love they have for each other, but also for what makes Tarifa so special. Here are some of my favourites…

If you’re into a big church ceremony, then no better start than the magnificent church of San Mateo. It is the main church in Tarifa, located in the centre of the old town on Calle Sancho IV el Bravo, it was built in 1506 on the remains of an old mosque, and all the town’s big weddings and religious festivals are held here.

If you prefer a more intimate church, then why not have your ceremony in the Iglesia de San Francisco de Asis. Tucked away in the centre of the old town, this whitewashed church, originally constructed in the 16th century, flaunts a mix of baroque and neoclassical styles, having been torn down and almost entirely rebuilt in the 18th century.

Further afield, The Santuario de la Virgen de la Luz, nestled in the hills overlooking Africa, was built in honour of the Patroness Saint to Tarifa, the Virgin of the Light. She has been venerated since XVI century in the Caheruelas Meadow hermitage, situated some 8 kilometres Northwest of the city in the midst of the Natural Cork Oak Park and close to the place where the Salado Battle was fought. Legend tells that she would have intervened by prolonging daylight so that Christian troops could ultimately end victorious.

For your wedding reception, there are venues to cater for all styles. For chilled out boho-chic parties…

with the beach, always close by…

For a Boutique hotel blessing, El Aguilon is the epitome of casual chic. This magnificent Andalusian Cortijo combines a traditional and relaxed environment with a high-end luxury feel. It is owned by the same group as the Punta Sur which I mentioned in my previous post, and also the renowned Hurricane Hotel, which unfortunately no longer host weddings as they are too full during the high season…

Or maybe you just want your own private villa…

This one is just across the road from my house!!!

always with sea views, of course…

There are so many options here, the only limits are the pure blue sky and your imagination! In my next post I will be looking at some gorgeous destinations a little further along the Costa de la Luz, taking in some fabulous venues in the protected forrest of Barbate, and in the famous white towns of Vejer de la Frontera and Medina-Sidonia.
